What is Staff Exchanges?

The action contributes to excellent research, boosting jobs, growth and investment by training researchers for new knowledge and skills. It fosters research cooperation across borders, sectors and disciplines.

The action encourages short-term international, interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral exchanges (secondments) of staff members involved in research and innovation activities of participating organisations. It aims to develop sustainable collaborative projects between diffetent organisations from the academic and non-academic sectors (in particular SMEs), based in Europe and beyod.

Who can apply?

All organisations involved in research and innovation activities, academic and non-academic (e.g. SMEs or other business organisations, NGOs, museums, hospitals, etc.) are potential participants. A Staff Exchanges consortium consists of a least three independent participants in three different countries.

What does Staff Exchanges fund?

The action funds exchanges of research and innovations staff between academic and non-academic organisations and between EU Member States/Associated Countries and other organisations located in the rest of the world. Moreover, it can fund up to 1/3 interdisciplinary secondments within the same sector in EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries.

Research staff of any nationality and at any career stage can be seconded, including administrative, managerial or technical roles involved with the scientific tasks of the project.

What can you expect from Staff Exchanges?

Research and Innovation Staff Exchanges, the predecessor of Staff Exchanges under Horizon 2020:

• attracted the most international partnerships;
• acted as an innovation hub by inspiring new ideas of scientific, economic and societal value including patents, products and services;
• triggered global intersectoral netwotking & innovation;
• developed researcher's skills and careers;
• fostered long lasting collaborations.
