What is Horizon 2020?

After the finalisation of the 7th Research Framework Programme and due to the economic crisis in Europe, the European Commission launched a new programme called Horizon 2020. This initiative aims to promote innovation and research in order to secure Europe's global competitiveness. Horizon 2020 is the financial instrument implementing the “Innovation Union”, a Europe 2020 flagship initiative.

This initiative complements the activities funded by the 7th Framework Programme (2007-2013) which included actions under the Competitiveness & Innovation Programme (CIP) and the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT).

This guide provides detailed information on the main changes that Horizon 2020 introduces, as well as the type of calls available. If you are looking for advice on writing your proposal or looking for partners, this guide also provides links to all relevant resources.
